Fengshui Colours and elements

Fengshui is a study of geographic observance and environment’s effect on its inhabits. Quality of Fengshui of a space is usually determined the the Yin Yang, 5 elements, period and age (time), landforms, water forms etc in a mainstream Fengshui context.

When a Fengshui is not ideal, the energy there do not support its inhabitants to strive and may even be harmful. The reserve is true, when Fengshui is idea, nothing needs to be done and its inhabitants will continue to prosper.

Fengshui and bazi birth charts are both influenced by the harmony of the 5 elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, water.

Everyone human being needs certain elements more than the others to achieve balance. The below chart is Fengshui colours and its associated elements.

Coordinating Fengshui colours & elements

Every direction is associated with an element, the colour choice for that direction can be enhanced by the choice of colours.

East / Wood element

Though the Sun rises in the East. East actually represents Spring and the wood element. Colours compatible with the East sector belongs to the wood and water element. As wood and water nourish the innate wood element.

Or you can as easily arrange for wooden furnitures to be here e.g. a nice wooden shelf, cabinet, some plants etc.

Wood colour: Green, blue.
Water colour:Black.

Enhance this wood element here appropriately will bring health, better academic performance for students and better luck for the adults.

West/Metal element

The innate metal element resides in the West. West represents autumn. Colours compatible with the West sector belongs to the Earth and Metal element.

The innate property of the West is creativity, military, technology and revolution.

Suitable fixtures here is easy as well, a citrine crystal ball or any crystals represents the earth element. Metallic objects is also suitable here.

Metal colour: White
Earth colour: Yellow

North/Water element

The innate water elements resides in the North. North represents winter, cold, calm and purity. The polar cap is found in the North pole. Colours compatible with the North sector belongs to Metal and Water element.

Water carries the meaning of romance, sexual energy as well. Humans are 70% water and chemical messages in our blood i.e. hormones are all associated with this direction and element.

Suitable fixtures here are a pool of water. A white rug, round and white objects etc

South/Fire element

The innate Fire element resides in the South. South represents summer, the warmest season of the year. It governs our sense of beauty, passion, exuberance etc. Colours compatible with the South direction belongs to Wood and Fire elements.

Wood: Green or blue
Fire: Fire.

Other factors to consider, deciding colours scheme for your home

1.It is not a good idea to adopt overly Yang or overly Yin colours to cover the walls e.g. Red walls and black walls. Abundant information is available online on why. It is just amazing that Fengshui is an early adopter on 5 elemental colours before science conclusively tell us how
colours can affect human’s biological responses.

2.The colour of the floor should be darker than the colour of your ceiling. If you do the opposite, overtime it will also your perception, affecting your sleep, appetite and other physiological responses.

3.Newly weds, especially in the Chinese community likes to incorporate a lot of red and pink colour in their new home. That is alright because wedding is a joyous event. Just bear in mind that red and pink belongs to the vibrant range of colours and will stimulate your senses subconscious, if the couple starts getting short and snappy at each other. It may be good to balance the house a little with calming tones e.g. white, cream white and other cooler tones.
